{"id":349,"date":"2014-08-19T12:20:30","date_gmt":"2014-08-19T19:20:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.popartsplace.net\/now\/?p=349"},"modified":"2014-08-21T17:25:06","modified_gmt":"2014-08-21T22:25:06","slug":"the-ice-bucket-challenge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.popartsplace.net\/now\/2014\/08\/19\/the-ice-bucket-challenge\/","title":{"rendered":"The Ice-Bucket Challenge"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>You&#8217;ve seen the Ice-Bucket Challenge going around social media? \u00a0To say it has gone viral would be an understatement. \u00a0And I can honestly say I believe it has raised awareness that people are trying to raise\u00a0funds for <a title=\"ALSA.org\" href=\"http:\/\/www.alsa.org\/about-als\/what-is-als.html\">ALS<\/a>\u00a0(at one time called Lou Gehrig&#8217;s Disease.) and that people are having a lot of fun doing it.<\/p>\n<p>But do you understand how it got started, and why? \u00a0Someone shared the story with me today, and it was not what I expected. \u00a0Somehow I thought a group had rallied together to do this, but that it was all prompted and inspired by one young man was far more powerful than I had imagined.<\/p>\n<p>Take a few minutes to watch this story ESPN put together, and next time you are watching one of those Ice Bucket videos&#8230; do not just watch, do not just laugh with the folks who are having fun, remember this is about raising funds and awareness for a crippling disease, to help people who can not lift that bucket for themselves.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/yCoKB_tU9ng\" width=\"480\" height=\"270\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Countless people have participated in the ice Bucket Challenge to date. \u00a0A video pops up on facebook seemingly hourly, whether a friend of a celebrity has just taken the time to do it. \u00a0Surf on over to youtube and type Ice Bucket Challenge followed by the name of your favorite celebrity and if they have participated you are likely to find the video. \u00a0Andrea Bocelli, Kerry Washington, John Barrowman, Vin Diesel, Stephen Amell, Robbie Amell, Hugh Jackman and the cast of his broadway show Pan,\u00a0Alex O&#8217;Loughlin, Daniel Dae Kim and Jorge Garcia are just a few of the celebrities who have posted their videos on facebook\u00a0participating and keeping the challenges going.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>You&#8217;ve seen the Ice-Bucket Challenge going around social media? \u00a0To say it has gone viral would be an understatement. \u00a0And I can honestly say I believe it has raised awareness that people are trying to raise\u00a0funds for ALS\u00a0(at one time called Lou Gehrig&#8217;s Disease.) and that people are having a lot of fun doing it.
